A non-profit dedicated to preserving holistic health, well-being and sustainable folkways for future generations.
We focus on the natural world, nature's cure,
and botanical medicine, specifically.
Sassafras is an Ohio project that works to preserve our herbal legacy, build our community around plants as medicine and food, educate on holistic health and wellness topics, and acts as a catalyst for other projects that do the same.
In addition to smaller projects, we gather annually in Ohio to learn and teach one another, network, and build community at the Sassafras gathering.
In 2019, we are starting:
Elder: an oral history project featuring herbal elders fro preserve their histories, protocols, and case studies for posterity.
This project will be featured at every Sassafras gathering moving forward , archived for free access on this website, and debuts in 2020!
Plant Allies: an interactive, searchable database for the Ohio herbal community.
We seek sponsors for the conference. Our attendees are herb enthusiasts, permaculture aficionados, gardeners, herb students, and plant geeks. If you think you are a good fit, we offer a package that includes logos on all gathering collateral, the website (with links), and a spot to vend on site.
Haven Herbs is central Ohio's worker owned herbal apothecary.
Lily Kunning, Community Herbalist is the driving force behind the organizing effort fo Sassafras. Many hours of labor were donated to make it a reality. You can support her efforts at the link below.
United Plant Savers is our venue and beneficiary. They preserve our legacy of medicinal endangered plants and educate plant users about safe use and harvesting.
